The Boys & Girls Club of the Coastside serves over 1,100 youth on the isolated San Mateo Coastside with high quality out-of-school time programming.  Our programs include academic support, enrichment, and fitness after-school daily for students in grades 5 to 12 on the Cunha Intermediate School campus in downtown Half Moon Bay.  We are currently hiring for several positions.  

Office Coordinator

Full-Time Position

Schedule:      

10:30 AM to 6:30 daily when school is in session
 7:30 AM to 4:30 daily during camps when school is not in session
 8 hour flexible shifts when no kids are at the Club

Key Roles:

    • Serve as the first point of contact for all inquiries on the phone, on email, and in person. Represent the Club with a positive attitude and a professional approach.
    • Collaborate with staff to ensure systems are in place, functioning and constantly updated, including but not limited to — Member Registration, Program Fee payments, Event Management, and Donor Stewardship. Key operating systems include MyClubHub (on the Salesforce platform), Bloomerang and Greater Giving.  The office uses the Google Suite.
    • Generate reports and analyze data to support decision-making.
    • Ensure compliance with data protection policies.
      Support staff and parents managing attendance, check-in and out and communication with parents.
    • Collaborate with staff to address member needs and concerns.
    • As a key partner to our Safety Team, ensure we can account for all Members at all times; manage safety drills and maintain Member records in case of an emergency.
    • Manage and collect program fees and scholarships for all of BGCC’s programs. Work with families to establish and maintain payment schedules.
    • Manage office and office systems to help staff team use time and resources effectively and efficiently.
      • Maintain centralized calendar.
      • Oversee maintenance of the office space and equipment
      • Maintain office supplies inventory and place orders when necessary
    • Support Bookkeeping by managing petty cash, copying checks and making deposits and filing.
    • Support Human Resources by
      • Running Payroll
      • Assisting with recruitment processes, including posting job openings and scheduling interviews
      • Maintaining employee records
      • Assist with onboarding
    • Help organize meetings that are fun and help build a sense of team.
    • Support Donor Stewardship by entering donations promptly and ensuring donors acknowledged thoughtfully.
    • Help the public understand BGCC by performing website audits and helping maintain our social media presence.
    • Help organize and schedule BGCC community facing events including Egg Hunt, Youth of the Year, Open House and our Annual Fundraiser.
    • As part of our team, identify day-to-day needs and areas of improvement for the Club.
    • Maintain a healthy and safe environment, including cleaning and sanitizing responsibilities.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary range is $25-30/per hour and dependent upon skill and experience.  Employee is eligible for full individual health care, SIMPLE IRA with BGCC matching and other benefits.

Elementary Lead Teacher

After-School Upper Elementary Lead Teacher

Schedule: daily when school is in session — 1:30 pm to 6:30pm
School Breaks and Summers:  TBD

BGCC is seeking a mature, experienced educator to join our team in a new role helping to expand and strengthen our growing upper elementary school program.  The program currently serves 20 5th grade students daily after-school and will be expanded in both size and scope in the upcoming (24-25) school year.

The ideal candidate will have experience developing exciting and varied curriculum for upper elementary school age students (grades 4 and 5), a commitment to quality and safety; a willingness to work directly with youth and enthusiastic attitude about our organization and the young people we serve.  This position requires strong organizational skills, the ability to foster positive relationships with parents and teachers, and a passion for promoting academic and personal growth in children.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement innovative and engaging curriculum and activities tailored to 4th and 5th grade students ensuring they complete daily school homework and have a variety of structured supervised activities each day.
  • Ensure afternoon program activities are clearly defined and are consistent to ensure stability. Share weekly plans with Leadership in advance.
  • Lead and supervise a daily walking bus from Hatch Elementary School to the BGCC site at Cunha daily ensuring the safe movement of youth.
  • Monitor student attendance using BGCC Member Tracking System, MyClubHub, a Salesforce application. Communicate with parents and BGCC leaders when students are missing the program regularly.
  • Collaborate with Hatch teachers to monitor and support the academic and social progress of students.
  • Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress, behavioral issues, and upcoming activities.
  • Work closely with our Youth Behavioral Specialist and ensuring that discipline plans are followed and communication is consistent
  • On a weekly basis ensure supplies are ready for activities and shared space such as center center/soccer field is coordinated with the rest of the BGCC after-school programs.
  • Collaborate with community partners to design and execute field trips that expose Members to the resources surrounding them. Many field trips are coordinated on foot during program time.  Others will use public and rented transport on extended days.
  • In collaboration with the Program Director and Marketing Associate develop materials to promote the program to parents. Ensure enrollment targets are met.
  • Supervise volunteers – both adults and high school students completing community service requirements – ensuring they add value to the program, adhere to all safety protocols and have a positive experience.
  • When school is out of session during breaks (Thanksgiving, Presidents Week and Spring Break), BGCC offers day camps for younger elementary students. With other staff, help to design and implement engaging age-appropriate activities for participating campers.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment by adhering to school and BGCC safety policies. Ensure that Big Five responses are practiced and understood by students, staff and volunteers.
  • Manage after-school elementary resources including supplies, materials, and equipment. Ensure that orders are placed in advance and monitor inventory. Ensure that damage is reported and corrected in a timely manner.

Youth Development Professional

The Youth Development Professional a team member committed to safety and student success helping elementary, middle and high school students succeed academically and emotionally, and capable of problem-solving and troubleshooting on a day-to-day basis. This is a part-time position.

Key Roles:

  • Maintain a positive Boys & Girls Club culture, with high energy, strong teamwork, and effective collaboration with other staff.
  • Oversee safety of Club members, including supervision during inside learning, outside activities, and entry/exit.
  • Assist with all aspects of homework — accessing assignments, completing homework, checking grades and accessing Power School when needed.
  • Organize and lead a range of activities for members that are fun, engaging, instructional and that develop team building skills.
  • Ensure inclusion of all members and encourage their participation in a variety of program areas/activities.
  • Respect and recognize members for their efforts.
  • Provide guidance to members; act as role model to Members.
  • Maintain a healthy and safe environment, including daily cleaning and sanitizing responsibilities.
  • Build positive relationships with parents, school personnel, volunteers, and fellow colleagues.
  • Exercise sound decision making, problem-solving skills, and restorative justice practices in resolving club members’ needs or issues.
  • As part of our staff team, identify day-to-day needs and areas of improvement for the Club.
  • Follow protocol with incidents by notifying the Site Manager immediately and writing an incident report.
  • Participate and demonstrate leadership in Special Events, Staff Huddles and team training.
  • Attend all required trainings.
  • Assume other duties as assigned
  • Initiate new programs with the approval of the Site Manager.

Experience and Skills

  • Experience working with young people.
  • Knowledge of the Coastside community and especially the Cabrillo Unified school system helpful.
  • High school degree (or equivalent) and commitment to helping students access K-12 and higher education.
  • Understanding of the developmental needs of young people.
  • Strong oral communication skills.
  • Ability to problem-solve during day-to-day Club activities.
  • Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth
  • Ability to engage respectfully with various groups including youth, public, parents, co-workers.
  • Ability to deal effectively with members including discipline issues.
  • Ability to pass required background checks.
  • Willingness to adhere to COVID safety guidelines.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English is very helpful, but not required.

Timing

Our After School program is open every day after school. Shift times are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 2:45 to 6:15 and Thursdays from 1:45 to 6:15.

We are hiring for positions that begin immediately.

We do need some “on call” substitute workers as well.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
