Member of the Month: Reynaldo “Rey” Torres
Each month the Boys & Girls Club of the Coastside (BGCC) recognizes one young person as Member of the Month. This month it is Reynaldo Torres, a 6th grader at Cunha.
We selected Reynaldo because he is an outstanding student. “Reynaldo is great at planning out his school work and is never afraid to speak up in class,” says JP Viernes, one of Reynaldo’s counselors at BGCC. David Contreras, another counselor, adds that Rey “is always on top of his work and gets it done on time – or even before it is due!”
Rey is energetic — but when another student has a test or presentation he helps keep everyone else quiet and focused. He is conscientious about knowing when he (or a classmate) has to work on something challenging.
When Reynaldo is not studying, he loves playing soccer with his friends and classmates at BGCC. Reynaldo misses going to class and seeing all of his friends at school. He really wanted to join the soccer team because he would like to be a professional soccer player when he grows up!
While he is most thankful for his family, he is also very grateful for the BGCC Learning Pods. Wi-Fi is very limited for his brother and himself at home and they do not have someone to look after them. Reynaldo likes the pods because he can get help with his homework. What he likes the most are the activities — and the “nice and helpful staff”.
When things return to “normal”, Reynaldo hopes he can still come to the Boys and Girls Club. We hope so, too! We appreciate all your hard work, understanding nature, and positive energy!
We look forward to seeing you on the soccer field, Reynaldo!
