Boys and Girls Club Talent Search Reveals Stars
“Don’t Stop Believing” Debuts September 26th
Over the past six months, plans have been underway for a musical review and fund-raising gala starring talented kids of the Coastside. Auditions started in June and drew over 50 hopefuls, which was narrowed down to 28 who will star in the show.
The project is the brainchild of Montara’s Plumbago Productions Managing Director & Executive Producer Debra Robins, co-owner David Beck, and their creative director Jeffrey Hornaday. Plumbago Productions produces live events and media projects around the globe, for clients such as Electronic Arts, Intel, Ubisoft, and Alpine Electronics.
Hornaday brings Hollywood to the Coastside. He began his career choreographing the groundbreaking dance films Flashdance, A Chorus Line and Captain Eo. Most recently he directed Teen Beach Movie for The Disney Channel. He personally selected and rehearsed the Coastside talent and the result promises to be spectacular.
BGCC CEO Georgia Antonopoulos has been dazzled by recent events. “Since last September, our team has been mobilizing for this moment with our partners. We launched a new Teen Center, renovated our historic Train Depot for increased activity space, and finalized plans for a new skate park.
“As we learn more about the effect of music and the arts in developing scientific and curious minds, it is fantastic to be able to put on this show that encourages local talent. Seeing the confidence that performing gives kids is inspiring.
“It’s especially fitting as we look forward to breaking ground with CUSD on our new 18,000 square foot facility at Cunha this fall, and to welcoming all Coastside youth with their many talents to participate in an expanded range of activities.” Antonopoulos credits tremendous support from the school district, volunteers and donors from both sides of the hill for making it all possible.
“Most of all, we’re excited to introduce the community to the new face of our Boys & Girls Club – a vibrant campus that’s truly for all youth on the Coastside.”
The show, entitled, Don’t Stop Believing: Building the Dream will be presented September 26th at the Cunha Gymnasium. As is appropriate for such a gala, the requested attire for attendees is “Black Tie and Tennis Shoes.” For more information visit the Boys & Girls Club website (http://bgccoastside.org) or call 650-522-0869.
