Boys & Girls Club of the Coastside is proud to recognize our outstanding Club Members through scholarship monies for college or trade schools. These scholarships embody our mission by helping young people reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

Scholarships for continuing education

Youth of the Year

Each year, BGCC selects one Club Member as BGCC Youth of the Year. This BGCC Club Member is celebrated at the BGCC End of the Year Celebration and the annual BGCC Gala, and they receive a $5,000 scholarship.

Youth of the Year is the highest honor a BGCC Club Member can receive. Finalists are chosen based on the following criteria:

  • Active involvement in the Club
  • Dedication to their education
  • Positive attitude toward staff and peers
  • Commitment to being caring, productive, and responsible

What it means to be BGCC’s Youth of the Year:

  • Represent the Club and its members throughout the year
  • Speak at special events on behalf of the Club
  • Attend key events (e.g., Pumpkin Festival Parade, Gala, Night of Lights, Youth of the Year Celebration)
  • Serve as a mentor, as schedule allows
  • Receive a scholarship to be used after high school graduation or approved educational purpose
  • Be honored with Club Bucks named after you for one year!

Youth of the Year finalists

Three outstanding BGCC Club Members (currently in high school) who best embody the mission of BGCC are selected each year as the Youth of the Year finalists. These finalists are considered for the Youth of the Year award. Each finalist who doesn’t win Youth of the Year receives a $500 scholarship.

Junior Youth of the Year

Each year, BGCC selects one Club Member as BGCC Junior Youth of the Year (currently in intermediate school) who best embodies the mission of BGCC. This BGCC Club Member is celebrated at the BGCC End of the Year Celebration and the BGCC annual Gala, and they receive a $1,000 scholarship.

Scholarships for the trades

Bob Senz Vocational Scholarships

For young adults, who demonstrate high character and a solid work ethic with a keen interest in pursuing a trade as their career, BGCC offers 1–3 Bob Senz Vocational Scholarships annually to qualifying Club Members. These scholarships support vocational or technical training for students interested in learning valuable job skills in trade careers such as automotive repair, plumbing, culinary arts, graphic design, welding, electrical, and more. These scholarships range from $1,000 to $4,500, depending on the cost of trade certifications and qualifications of the applicant.

Bob Senz was a founding member of BGCC, a U.S. veteran, and a local businessman who cared passionately about the Coastside and Coastside youth. These scholarships honor Bob and his legacy.

Bob Senz Scholarship in Memory of Brad Seitz

This BGCC scholarship is part of the Bob Senz Vocational Scholarship program and is awarded in memory of Brad Seitz to qualifying Club Members who demonstrate high character and a solid work ethic with a keen interest in pursuing a trade as their career.

Brad worked as a stationary engineer, a career he entered with the help and guidance of Neil Senz. Much like Bob Senz, Brad was known for always giving of himself to others.
